A Little Walk on the Beach

My hubby and I ran off too the beach for a few days of R & R. We shopped, well, mostly I shopped, he played golf and fished.
We arrived on Fri and it rained Sat - Wed.  I don't mean a little rain, I mean all day, flooding kind of rain.  The first night we were able, we walked on the beach and we were treated to a beautiful sunset.

Till the Cows Come Home!

Last February, we went to San Diego with my in-laws.  It was such a fun trip and I posted about all our adventures HERE.  We actually stayed in Escondido.  They have an awesome Goodwill store.  It is arranged beautifully, like an upscale department store where I found the most wonderful cow plates.  I couldn't resist at $0.98 each!  Yes, the cows had to come home with me!  They are collectible plates and not meant for food, but they were just so dang cute!  It was time to feature them on a table.
I started with a dark green woven placemat, then a rattan charger.  The cream plates are American Atlier

Each plate is different and I have 10 total.  I think the cows are so whimsical.

Several months after buying the cow plates, I ran across this cute pair at OTP.

This pair of carved wood candlesticks from Ross have become a real workhorse.  They fit any time I want a more nature inspired element.  I paired them with some mosiac globes from TJ.

The linen hemstitch napkins and the cowhide napkin rings are from Wold Market.
I originally had just the cows on the runner, but my sweet hubby said, "Where the field", so I added some chunks of moss to put the cows out in the their field.  The woven runner is one of the pieces I brought back from Round Top, TX.

You might remember my estate sale find; Johnson Brothers Indian Tree.  I was so happy they fit in this old china cabinet. I am on the hunt for the one missing salad plate.

BBQ Style

Well, that certainly was the "week that was"!  My 92 year old Mother was rushed to the ER last Monday with "critical labs".  Hubby out of town fishing, out of town company, family dinner, and a visit from a new puppy.  Whew!  I am glad it's over.  Mom is good for now.  Me, I'm not so sure.  Luckily, I had my table mostly together the weekend before.
I had already decided on the menu including a smoked shoulder, so a "ranch" style table was in order.

I started with a quilted placemat, topped with Pier 1 bronze chargers from a CO thrift store.  I added a Pfaltzgraff plate, a salad plate from Dillards, then a bandana style napkin, and Cambridge flatware.

Polka dot glasses from OTP.  Chickens from HG and Ross.  Cowhide napkin rings from World Market.
I really wanted some rusted barbed wire, but this was not the week to be wandering around in the fields so I settled for grapevine.

On Friday, I found these darling checked dishes on clearance and tried them out.  The brand is "At Home with Marieke", 65% off at Dillards too.  Everyone liked the checked the best, so they won!

Watermelon salad with lime marinated onions, black olives and feta cheese; a summertime favorite at our house.

Yes, that is a bottle of wine and a well deserved Gin Gimlet at my place!  Hope you had a more relaxing holiday!
