Hot Antique - Dishes!

It may be turning fall in most of the country, but in Round Top, TX it was 107 degrees last week, that wasn't going to stop us.  We tromped through the dirt and dust,(and mud one day) from tent to tent, and barn to barn, to find these hidden treasures. It was tablescape inspiration heaven!

The vendor said Limoges, but the price was so steep, I was afraid to pick them up to get anymore information. 

Ironstone everywhere!   

I just swooned over these gray Corinthians Harkerware, but several were chipped and there were none to be found on Ebay to replace them so I passed.  Now that I am home, they are going to be one of those things I will regret not buying forever! 

Dangerous place for a dish collector who can't seem to stop.  I will be joining the Tablescaper's Seasonal Sunday and highlighting some of the more funky finds later in the week, so come back and visit again.  

Hot Antiques!

This gynormous antique show takes place mostly in farmer's fields near Warrenton and Round Top TX.  Usual population in this area is under 50, but for this one week, thousands of antique lovers descend on the area.    

This was my first year to go, but I have heard about it for several years.  Even so, I wasn't prepared for the things I saw!  

Vendor's ware are displayed under tents, in farm buildings, and in rescued buildings that have been moved into the fields.  The tents seemed to go on forever, field after field, and mile and mile!

It was H - O - T and dusty.  For the first three days, I thought I was going to melt like these candles.  

One of the ranchers who opened his field for vendors, prepared a large pot of Texas chili for everyone.  It was beyond delicious and the sweet red wine was the perfect compliment. 

The brisket from the Legal Tender Saloon was amazing and the portions were huge.  The pimento cheese with seven cheeses was also awesome. 

Did not try any of these treats.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison

One of the most amazing things we saw in CO this year was this canyon.  I wasn't prepared for how ominous and foreboding it would be.  I had heard it was beautiful, and it was, but it was also unlike anything I have seen before. 

The Gunnison River runs at the very bottom about 2000 feet below, but you can hear it at the rim as if you were standing beside it.  Click on the video to hear the roaring river.

We arrived at sundown and the light was not the best for shooting a dark slash in the earth.  The sunlight was too bright at the surface and the depth of the canyon was just grayed out. 

It was a very eery place.  I am not at all afraid of heights, but here, I felt if I lost my footing, I would be swallowed and never be found.   There are areas at the bottom of the canyon that the sunlight never reaches. 

 In spite of the challenges with the light, the Black Canyon left an impression I won't soon forget.  

As we came away from the National Park, we came upon a beautiful field at sunset.

Colorado National Monument

If you like the Grand Canyon, you might just love the Colorado National Monument outside of Grand Junction.

Gorgeous red rock gorges (pun intended) just outside the city.  Lots of hiking trails long and short.  We drove the twelve mile loop and did many of the sort hikes from the parking area to the overlooks.  

Don't let anyone tell you that dry heat is more comfortable.  It was H-O-T, but we enjoyed our day.  I'll be sharing this at Seasonal Sundays
