Well, that certainly was the "week that was"! My 92 year old Mother was rushed to the ER last Monday with "critical labs". Hubby out of town fishing, out of town company, family dinner, and a visit from a new puppy. Whew! I am glad it's over. Mom is good for now. Me, I'm not so sure. Luckily, I had my table mostly together the weekend before.
I had already decided on the menu including a smoked shoulder, so a "ranch" style table was in order.
I started with a quilted placemat, topped with Pier 1 bronze chargers from a CO thrift store. I added a Pfaltzgraff plate, a salad plate from Dillards, then a bandana style napkin, and Cambridge flatware.
Polka dot glasses from OTP. Chickens from HG and Ross. Cowhide napkin rings from World Market.
I really wanted some rusted barbed wire, but this was not the week to be wandering around in the fields so I settled for grapevine.
On Friday, I found these darling checked dishes on clearance and tried them out. The brand is "At Home with Marieke", 65% off at Dillards too. Everyone liked the checked the best, so they won!

Diane, wow you did have a week! I found myself a few days last week saying I just need this day to be over.. LOL You surely did a great job with the table. and I like the red check plates a lot too....glad your Mom is ok...hope you will be too...
ReplyDeleteLove, Mona
I love those red check plates - I just might have to swing by Dillard's on my way home from work tomorrow!! Your table is cute, perfect BBQ setting.
ReplyDeleteDiane, glad to know your mom is OK now. Wow, what a week! It pays off to set a table a week ahead. Ha! You did a fantastic job on the table. Love the details, and the new checked plates are my favorite. Rusty barbed wire would be cute, but dangerous trying to scavenge it. Think rattlesnakes! I like the idea of the grapevine just fine!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a calm week and get some leisure time for yourself. Hugs ~ Sarah
Love the table and your menu. Sorry to hear about your mom, glad she is doing better. Yes, you deserve that cocktail! xo
ReplyDeleteSo adorable!! Love everything about this table - the place settings and, especially, your chickens!! The food looks delicious and the color scheme is perfect for barbeque! So glad your mother is better!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your table setting!! The colors are great - red is one of my favorites - and the chickens are a wonderful addition! Thanks for sharing!

So gorgeous...love those checked plates and the bandana napkins.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very busy time, with a lovely dinner and table. Good thing you work ahead! Sorry it had to be so stressful. Whose new puppy???? Checked plates are darling. Does Chris need to build more shelves?
ReplyDeleteHow cute is this! The plaids, the bandanas, the chickens all work together to make your table a wonderful setting for a comfortable gathering.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and happy tablescape! Your watermelon salad looks so cool, refreshing and delish. Glad to hear that your mom is okay for now. I have an elderly mom as well and know how frightening these health emergencies can be. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteBig Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Dianne, you are so creative -- I love this table!! You really incorporated some great ideas into this tablescape. I love the way you styled those bandana napkins, and the cowhide napkin rings are so cool. The glasses pair really well with the cheerful checked plates, and your centerpiece looks great, too. I love the idea of the rusty barbed wire; just make sure everyone has had their tetanus shots. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your mom had to go the the ER! I hope she'll continue to improve and I hope you can have a quiet and restful week now. Thanks so much for your visit and sweet comments on our kitchen. I really appreciate them.
Hugs,
Denise at Forest Manor
Diane, this table is absolutely wonderful. The colors give a nod to our national holiday as well as the casual atmosphere. First of all your dining table is so beautiful and I love the chairs. I, too, like the checkers plates best and your combination of pattern, textures and colors are perfection. I am a new follower
