Late Summer Flowers

I started a table a couple of weeks ago, but it just refused to come together.  Has that ever happened to you?  No matter how much I stared at it, I couldn't figure out how to fix it.  Finally I just packed it all up and went shopping.  Shopping always makes me feel better.  I had my eye on a set of dishes at Home Goods for several weeks and now they were GONE!  The shelf was empty.  Disappointed, I made my usual run around the store, arriving at the clearance aisle last and there on the end cap, on the very bottom; eight salad plates in the pattern that I had been watching for weeks!  On CLEARANCE.  Into to my cart they went and I couldn't get home fast enough as inspiration for a new table quickly formed in my head.
The floral dishes are 222 Fifth-Alicia (probably named after my tablescape hero, Alycia Nichols!, even though the spelling is a little off). I love the floral and thought they would go well with my quilted floral placemats.
My hydrangeas were all transplanted this spring so they are smaller than usual, but I am not complaining.  I am so grateful that we have an irrigation system and I have any flowers at all with the temps this summer.
The wavy mirror was picked up on a recent trip to Ikea in Atlanta.  They came in a package of two and I walked right by them, but my enabling, sweet husband spotted them and said, "wouldn't this look good on the table?".  He has great instincts.
I added a few white accents with the glass balls, the painted candelabras and the while ceramic napkin rings.
The white ceramic chargers are also from Ikea.

After struggling with an unfinished design for weeks, I was surprised that this came together in just an hour or so.  A shout out to my husband for making at least three trips out back to brave the chiggers and mosquitos for more hydrangeas.  I put them in water and will let the water evaporate and the flowers will hold their green for months.

  1. To quote Sally Field, "I can't deny the fact that you like me. Right now, you like me!" :-) You longed for my namesake and searched to find her so she would not live out her days languishing on the clearance shelf! :-) What an absolutely wonderful thing to happen!!!! I can only imagine how you must have felt when you thought those dishes were gone forever, but you did a complete 180 when there they were in all their glory...and on clearance!!! Really makes you grin all day, doesn't it? You must have REALLY loved those dishes to be able to come home and put your table together in such a short time. True love! They are so, so pretty. I don't recall seeing them at any of the Home Goods stores here in the Kansas City area. I would just HAVE to have my namesake, of course!!! :-) Your hydrangea are beautiful despite this summer heat that scorched practically everything in sight. I like how you used it throughout the length of the centerpiece rather than just concentrating it all in one spot. Tell hubby, "Good eye!" on the mirror runners!!! That adds a lot to the table! Slowly, but surely, we bring them into our world!

  3. How lovely and how lucky of you to find 8 salad plates. I never find 8 of any pattern from HG. I love the colors. Thanks for stopping by, Diane. My candlesticks holders are separate from the vases. ...Christine

  5. I adore this tablescape. I love the color combination and the plate from 222 Fifth. They make such great dinnerware. I actually called them in New York yesterday to see if I could get a catalog of their dinnerware but they don't send them to customers. Too bad, I would really like to see all of their beautiful patterns.

  7. I'll say this table came together--BEAUTIFULLY!!! I'm not sure there is any problem shopping won't solve, and you have proved it. The dish layers are just wonderful on those pretty placemats, and your husband smartly recommended the mirrors. The hydrangeas are perfect, too!

  9. Lovely, as usual. Thought you were not going to buy any more dishes? Smile.... Those hydrangeas... I am jealous. Mine have not recovered from the storm but they are putting out some new green. It is one of the things I love about the condo in Destin...all those beautiful Hydrangea plants. Yours look beautiful with your table setting... and the green dishes look like they match the green in your new floral dishes perfectly. How about Chris...always having an eye out for your passion....remember that the next time there is a late fishing expedition... another smile would go here. The table looks beautiful. I posted my mosaic table finally so have a look. Hugs, CeCe

  13. I so know what you mean about a table not coming together sometimes. How fun that the very plates you had been staring at found their way to the clearance aisle. So bright and cheery! Wonderful to have you with us at Seasonal Sundays.
