Chick Chick a dee!

The holidays are over, the bright lights are all put away and the skies are gray.  Winter is settling in in TN.  It's a rare day if we see sun in January so this year, I wanted to brighten up inside, but after all the Christmas color, I also wanted to keep it simple.
Although this is not my photo, on any given winter day, we have at least 20 Black-capped Chickadees on our bird feeder or on the Winterberry Bushes in the backyard.  Let's celebrate this cheerful winter visitor.
I started my table with linen Wedgewood placemats that I have had forever, then added a white swirl glass charger from Pier 1.
Flatware is Fashion Lane by Alvin from 1944.  I love the simplicity of the design.

I knew when I saw these Chickadee plates at Home Goods that they would look great with my linens.  I paired them with Miskasa Antique white dinner plates.

Wedgewood water goblets on clearance from Dillards.
Simple centerpiece of pillar candles, on a cake plate, and surrounded by a grapevine wreath.

Sweet Black-capped Chickadees on Dogwood branches.
Candlesticks from Hobby Lobby, clear glass globes with red berries to mimic the berries on the plates. I love the height the candlesticks bring to the table.
Red striped cotton dishtowels from Home Goods bring a little coziness.

  1. Love this table! Those chickadee plates are so cute! Perfect for a January day. Love the centerpiece and the tall candlesticks! hugs, Linda

  2. I love the dishes and the chickadees.I have a couple in my yard and they are always talking to me. Where did you find them at?

  6. Every single detail of your table is perfect! I love watching the birds in our backyard, and I didn't know what those little birds were. I think I have seen a few. We don't have a feeder any more because of the chipmunks, etc.

Google and AT&T are going to drive me to drink!

  7. What a perfect setting for a chilly winter day! I have those same chickadee plates, courtesy of a win from Mary at Home Is Where The Boat Is. Aren't they darling?!

I'm very envious of your big beautiful dining room & table. I bet you've had lots of family memories created around it.

    Warm Hugs,

The chargers are so similar to the plates I used this week. Except my are turquoise.. Same swirls though. Love your table. a perfectly wintry table.. xo marlis

  11. So pretty, Diane! I did a tablescape with these chickadee dishes last year, and I've seen several other tables with them yet they're all so different. That's really nice--how each of us envisions them differently. I love the gray with it--it's perfect, and I love, love, love the dogwood branches and all the chickadees--so cute! Stop by and visit my Chickadee Home Nest! P.S. - I don't see nearly as many chickadees around here as you do; boy, would I love that!!

  12. What a gorgeous dining room, the table is set so beautifully. Love the chickadee dishes and the ones in the branches. Visiting from Let's Dish and following. xo

  13. Dianne, have I told you how much I envy your beautiful long dining table and that light filled room? Gorgeous! Love the chickadee theme. Chickadee-dee-dee-dee! Oh this is one of my favorites! Bravo!

I ove your centerpiece and the touches of red with all the white...it's very wintery! Thank you for your sweet comment. Hope you come by again to see my winter tablescape at Tablescape Thursday. Big hugs,

  15. Dianne,
    What an adorable Winter Tablescape!
I adore your dinnerware. Your linen choice sets the mood for each place setting.
Such subtle colors against the pop of red! The candlelight photos are breathtaking!
    P.S. Visiting from Susan's!!!

  16. I bought the same plates at Home Goods and plan to do a table with them as well. I love what you paired them with. The gray is perfect fr our gray winter days! Love those candlesticks too. XO, pinky

  17. Wow, this is one beautiful table...I drool every time I see those candlesticks. Love the chickadee plates.

  18. How pretty. I love the chikadees on the branches for your centerpiece and they look like your plates just came to life! Nice Winterscape!

  19. Hi, Dianne! I love the optical illusion of whirling snow created by the white swirl charger!!! That's really cool!!! It's like a blustery winter storm!

The chickadee motif is perfect for this time of year when Christmas is nothing but a memory but we're still stifled by the cold air that comes with winter. January...just one of those really crazy months to decorate! You, however, have narrowed it to something really easy to capture that feeling! Winter cardinals...so pretty! And adding those dishtowels...WOW!!! It's like the birds have come home to nest!!! Have a warm and cozy weekend!!!
