Till the Cows Come Home!

Last February, we went to San Diego with my in-laws.  It was such a fun trip and I posted about all our adventures HERE.  We actually stayed in Escondido.  They have an awesome Goodwill store.  It is arranged beautifully, like an upscale department store where I found the most wonderful cow plates.  I couldn't resist at $0.98 each!  Yes, the cows had to come home with me!  They are collectible plates and not meant for food, but they were just so dang cute!  It was time to feature them on a table.
I started with a dark green woven placemat, then a rattan charger.  The cream plates are American Atlier

Each plate is different and I have 10 total.  I think the cows are so whimsical.

Several months after buying the cow plates, I ran across this cute pair at OTP.

This pair of carved wood candlesticks from Ross have become a real workhorse.  They fit any time I want a more nature inspired element.  I paired them with some mosiac globes from TJ.

The linen hemstitch napkins and the cowhide napkin rings are from Wold Market.
I originally had just the cows on the runner, but my sweet hubby said, "Where the field", so I added some chunks of moss to put the cows out in the their field.  The woven runner is one of the pieces I brought back from Round Top, TX.

You might remember my estate sale find; Johnson Brothers Indian Tree.  I was so happy they fit in this old china cabinet. I am on the hunt for the one missing salad plate.

  2. Moooo! Just loving those plates. You and Marigene used similar chargers and flatware this week. Great minds think alike. I have never seen the Johnson Brothers pattern before. Quite a treat! Good luck in your search for a plate. Joni

  9. Loving your Cows!!! How cute. There is just something about cows that make me laugh. We have some just down the street from us and love when they all come in to be milked - they are funny animals! The two that you found for you centerpiece compliment the plates well.

  10. The Cow plates are wonderful with all the elements in your lovely dining room. I have been tempted by Indian Tree patterns so many times. This evening, there are 12 auctions going for Johnson Brothers Indian Tree salad plates. Maybe one of them has your name on it. Happy hunting! Cherry Kay

  14. Dianne, what a fun table...those cow dishes are the best...I love them! I am glad that your husband asked where the field was, the two cows look right at home amongst the green. Thanks for sharing your unique table.

  15. I cannot believe you found those cute cow plates at a GW store for that price! What a lucky find. If you used a clear glass plate over them, you could use them for dining (I've done that before). The cows in the center are so fun. I love their kind of folk artsy look, and you even have cowhide napkin rings. Great table, and oh how gorgeous that china looks in your hutch! laurie

  17. What a fun post, Dianne! I was kind of giggling the whole time I was reading it, because the plates are SOOOO cute, and I can only imagine how you brought the home (in your suitcase creates a lot more fun than if you shipped them, LOL), but the thing that really made me laugh was your darling, creative centerpiece--complete with grass. Way to go, Husband!! Great table!!

Thank you for stopping over at my Dad's Suitcase post and your sweet comments about it. I'm very happy to have it out where I can see it. ~Zuni

  19. This table is adorable and yes, you did need those plates, at that price! I am sad now that I did not make it to the Goodwill in Escondido...we did all the downtown shops. Janice is not a junker like I am but she would have gladly gone with me...next time!
